Losing excess kilograms in a short period of time may be attractive, but it is not healthy.

What are the causes of sudden weight loss and what are the associated risks? There are several reasons for unintentional rapid weight loss, such as suffering from certain health conditions or diseases. In this article, Dr. Mohammed Aboul-Ezz, a digestive and liver consultant, explains the basic information about sudden weight loss. The term "sudden weight loss" refers to losing more than 0.45 - 0.9 kilograms per week, which is considered rapid and unhealthy weight loss and can cause various health problems such as muscle loss, slow metabolism, overall nutrient deficiency, and anemia. However, it should be noted that starting a healthy diet with exercise may initially lead to rapid weight loss, which is normal. Causes of sudden weight loss include: hyperthyroidism, celiac disease, pancreatic problems, diabetes, depression, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer.

The risks of sudden weight loss are significant. While most people desire to lose excess kilograms, Dr. Mohammed Aboul-Ezz does not recommend doing so quickly. Instead, he advises slow and healthy weight loss because those who lose weight slowly are more likely to maintain their weight loss compared to those who lose weight quickly. Additionally, sudden weight loss due to illness requires diagnosis and treatment of the underlying condition. The effects of sudden weight loss on health and beauty can be summarized as follows: 1. Muscle loss: Not all weight loss means losing fat; strict diets can lead to the loss of muscle mass instead. Therefore, sudden weight loss is often associated with the loss of water and muscle rather than fat. 2. Slowed metabolism: Rapid and sudden weight loss can slow down the body's metabolic processes, which require daily calorie burning. Any slowdown in these processes leads to burning fewer calories. 3. General nutrient deficiency: Sudden weight loss makes it difficult for the body to efficiently absorb nutrients and reduces the daily amounts needed by the body. As a result, some health effects may occur, such as hair loss, chronic fatigue, and weakened immune system.

4. Hair loss: When consuming fewer calories, it becomes difficult to obtain the necessary nutrients that the body needs, especially when it comes to hair, which can lead to hair loss. Chronic fatigue: Often, the body does not receive enough iron, vitamin B12, and folic acid when following a low-calorie diet, which can result in overall weakness and fatigue. Weak immune system: Not providing enough calories daily negatively affects the immune system. Weak and brittle bones may be a result of a deficiency in vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus, which are essential for bone health. Sudden weight loss can lead to gallstones formation. Additionally, sudden weight loss can increase the risk of other health problems such as muscle cramps, dizziness, dehydration, allergies, constipation or diarrhea, headaches, and menstrual disorders. If you experience sudden weight loss without following a strict diet plan, it is important not to ignore these symptoms and consult a doctor to ensure there is no serious health problem.
